Srinagar, July 11: With mostly dry weather predicted, low temperatures rose over much of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

According to GNS, which cited a meteorologist’s prediction, the rain should stop by July 14. Short periods of rain and thunderstorms “can’t be ruled out (>70% chance)” though, he warned. From July 15-24, there is a 70% probability of showers, ranging from light to moderate, throughout most of J&K.

The MeT official said that the low temperature in Srinagar was 16.4 degrees Celsius today, down from 17.2 degrees Celsius last night and 1.7 degrees Celsius below usual for the summer capital.

He reported that Qazigund, the valley’s entry point, had a low of 16.0°C, 0.5°C lower than average, compared to the previous night’s 14.5°C.

According to him, Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, saw a drop in temperature to 10.7 °C from 10.3 °C the night before. This was 1.3 °C cooler than average.

According to him, the mercury dropped to 15.1 degrees Fahrenheit in Kupwara town last night, down from 15.2 degrees the night before, and 1.3 degrees below typical for the north Kashmir region.

Kokernag’s low temperature was 15.3 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 0.6 degrees below usual and higher than the previous night’s 14.2 degrees.

He reported a drop in temperature from the previous night to a low of 9.8 degrees Celsius at Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, which is 2.0 degrees Celsius below average.

Jammu recorded a low of 25.1°C versus 23.8°C on the previous night and it was 1.2°C above usual for J&K’s winter capital, he added.

The official reported lows of 15.4 °C in Bhaderwah, 22.7 °C in Katra, 22.7 °C in Batote, and 22.7 °C in Banihal.
