The long-awaited KupwaraPencakSilat Championship 2023 kicked off today at GDC Kupwara, hosted by the District KupwaraPencakSilat Association and the Jammu and Kashmir PencakSilat Association.
Over 150 athletes from dozens of local schools, universities, and clubs showed up to compete in the event, which was hosted by the J&K Sports Council and supported by the Growth Sports Academy J&K.
Distinguished guests, including Mohammad Shafi Lone, Principal of GDC Kupwara, attended the championship’s opening ceremony. Lone’s attendance lent the event an air of importance, and his advocacy for martial arts growth in the area was on full display. He lauded sports for their positive effects on health and urged all competitors to exhibit their mettle and good spirit during the competition.
Professor Mehraj Bashir Dagga of the college’s Zoology Department, Head of Department Ashfaq Ahmad Bhat of Physical Education and Sports, and Major Rajeev of the 160th TA were among the honoured guests who joined Lone.
Mr. AadilManzoor Peer, a distinguished athlete on the world stage, also attended the occasion.
