Kupwara, November 18: The administration in the district of Handwara in north Kashmir has not been able to finish the construction of a five-room structure at the Government Girls Middle School Wadipora despite the passing of 20 arduous years, which has caused an incredible amount of difficulty for the kids who are enrolled here.
According to the locals, around 20 years ago, a building with five rooms was approved for the school in an effort to alleviate the severe housing shortage that existed at the time.
“Later, the construction was resumed, and the brick work was finished, but the slab was not set on the structure. As a direct consequence of this, the condition of the structure is becoming worse with each passing day,” they said.
According to many who live in the area, the fact that the school can operate effectively out of just four classrooms at the moment is a good indicator of how well the school is run.
More than 150 pupils are already registered at this institution, and the students of a few courses are even instructed outside beneath the open sky. The rooms that are currently accessible are completely overcrowded. Students in lower courses are required to remain inside if there is adverse weather. Because of this, individuals report that their academic performance has suffered as a consequence.
An insider in the Education Department said that not only this structure but also over a half-dozen other buildings in the Rajwar Education Zone were sanctioned for various schools, but all had been deserted halfway, resulting in a significant loss to the government exchequer.
“The buildings have been constructed by the Rural Development Department, but we don’t know why they were left unattended after spending a handsome amount on them,” he added. “The Rural Development Department has spent a handsome amount of money on them.”
In the meantime, residents of Rajwar have requested that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter. They want to learn the reasons behind why the construction of these structures was abandoned in the middle of the process.
