We’ve highlighted 75 quirky sites and another 75 places that encourage spiritual experiences as a way to honour local culture.
27 August, Srinagar: According to the Jammu and Kashmir government, additional 75 tourist attractions have been set aside to promote religious tourism in the area.
This comes after the valley welcomed a record-breaking 1 crore visitors in 2022, according to official figures.
During the “Jashn-e-Adab—Cultural Karavaan” event, Syed Abid Rashid Shah, the tourist Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, talked confidently about the advancements achieved in the area’s tourist industry.
Shah emphasised, highlighting the booming status of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, “We are bypassing last year’s tourist influx this year by leaps and bounds.”
The Secretary credited a number of reasons, including the recent G-20 Tourism Working Group conference conducted in Srinagar, which he referred to as a “game changer” in terms of increasing international visitor arrivals, for this amazing rise.
The increase in population is not the only accomplishment for the area. Shah revealed that the government’s initiatives to market less well-known locations have produced notable outcomes.
He said, “We’ve promoted 75 unusual sites to highlight local culture. In addition, 75 places have been designated to promote spiritual encounters and another 75 to advance religious tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah went on to describe the continuing programmes designed to highlight the area’s natural beauty and cultural diversity. He emphasised the active involvement in International Trade Marts to attract visitors from outside and gave the assurance that a pro-artisan strategy was in the works, intended to help the local artisan community.
Shah said that a delegation from the Tourism Department was now in Ahmedabad for a promotional tour, which had already attracted a lot of attention, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasised that Cochin and Chennai had already run similar successful initiatives.
The expectation of obtaining record-breaking visitor numbers for the year is well within reach thanks to these several initiatives working together to support the tourism industry. The future of the tourism sector in Jammu & Kashmir is bright as long as the area keeps its doors open to both domestic and foreign travellers.
