The news agency GNS cited a statement from the PRO (Defence) Jammu as saying that the deceased was the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen leader Muneser Hussain.

Lt. Col. Suneel Bartwal added in the statement that “the killed (militant) has been identified as Muneser Hussain son of Sattar Mohammad of Bagyladra Poonch” based on police records.

He said that Hussain first visited PoK in 1993, then again in 1996, and finally in 1998.He is responsible for many assaults on security personnel. His two wives and their children live in Surankote, Poonch, where he has been a resident according to police records.

According to him, Syed Salahuddin is good friends with Maulana Dawood Kashmir (TuJ), and TuJ is close friends with Hussain.

He just attended a high-level HM group meeting in Islamabad. Reviving the Hezbollah movement in Rajouri Poonch was on the agenda, he claimed, adding, “From this we can make out that Muneer Hussain along with his body guard was sent with the agenda of reviving the Hezbollah movement in Rajouri Poonch / South of Pir-Panjal (SPPR).”

According to the spokesperson, Hussain has been granted more authority over the Tanzeems and been instructed to “revive terrorism South of Pir Panjal.”

He said that Hussain was HM’s top leader. As his death is reported, “He is the most dreaded (militant) killed in the last 10 years in Rajouri/Poonch.”

He said that it was obvious that Pakistan was attempting to send ageing militant “veterans” to JK in an effort to encourage and attract youngsters, calling these actions “desperate attempts to revive” militancy.
