A government school instructor in the Bandipora area of north Kashmir has been arrested on charges of ripping a student’s hijab while on school grounds.
An official was informed by the female student who filed the complaint that her professor had approached her while she was sitting in class and torn off and thrown across the room her hijab.
He said the girl said that the instructor had been harassing her and her students for some time, but that today the harassment became intolerable when he tried to remove her hijab.
The youngster also said that she had previously broached the topic of harassment with her guardians. “On one occasion, when my mother visited the school regarding the matter, the accused lecturer confronted and shouted at her and questioned her presence on the school premises” , according to her.
The girl said that she had informed the school’s administration of this problem on several occasions; nevertheless, to her dismay, nothing was done to address the problem.
A police officer has said that a complaint has been filed under 354 of the Indian Penal Code and 9/10 of the Pakistan Organized Crime and Security Act, adding that the focus of the inquiry would be on KNO.
