Air Force Station Srinagar hosted a number of events in celebration of the 75th anniversary of India’s independence from Great Britain from the 9th to the 15th of August as part of the government of India’s Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign.
On August 10th, as part of a ceremony called “Vasudha Vandhan” in the village of Lalgaon, villagers planted 75 native tree saplings to help replenish the ground. At Lalgaon, a ‘Panch Pran’ promise was also taken on August 10th. A few of locals joined in on the action as well.
The Air Officer in Command of Air Force Station Srinagar, Air Commodore Pankaj Mittal, hoisted the National Flag to celebrate Independence Day. Government Middle School in Gudsathoo, Budgam, hosted Independence Day festivities, and a group of air warriors and 41st Battalion BSF personnel showed up together to celebrate. Participants hoisted the flag together and then pledged allegiance to the Rashtragaan and the Panch Pran.
At Govt middle School Gadribal in Srinagar, the air warriors enthusiastically took part in slogan raising and watched a Kabbadi match as part of the campaign. Doos Mohammad, District Youth Officer of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, acted as the event’s coordinator.
