New Delhi, August 14: The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that television broadcasters should be subject to effective self-regulation.
These comments were delivered by a bench hearing an appeal against the Bombay High Court, which was presided over by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
The Bombay High Court ruling that made negative remarks about the self-regulation of TV networks has been appealed by the News Broadcasters Association (NBA).
The court requested proposals from the NBA counsel regarding how to improve the self-regulatory system.
The court observed that the original punishment amount from many years ago had not been increased. The court found that since 2008, the penalty’s amount has not increased. The judge ruled that the penalty must be proportionate to the profiles earned by the channel from that show.
