A significant development for the area is the opening of the Women Police Station in Kargil, which will be crucial in addressing the particular issues and difficulties that women there confront. With a special emphasis on addressing cases involving women’s rights, domestic abuse, harassment, and other gender-specific offences, this new programme intends to provide a safer and more encouraging atmosphere for women to report events and seek justice.

Speaking during the event of inauguration, ADGP SD Singh Jamwal stressed the value of women’s emancipation and their active involvement in law enforcement. “The opening of the women’s police station in Kargil is an important step towards building a society that is more safe and inclusive. With the knowledge that their complaints would be heard carefully and quickly, this programme will give women more confidence to contact the police, he said.

On Tuesday, the recently appointed Ladakh Police Chief, ADGP SD Singh Jamwal, travelled to the Kargil district to get a firsthand assessment of the security, policing, and police-public relations in the area.

The Ladakh Police head met with a number of delegations of distinguished residents, members of civil society, representatives of social and religious organisations, and students at the conference centre Baroo in Kargil during his visit. Along with other top police officers, the Ladakh police head was joined by top Superintendent of Police Kargil Anayat Ali Chowdhury and Additional SP Kargil Iftikhar Chaudhary.

Later, in a statement to the media, ADGP claimed that three suspects who were engaged in an attack on police officers had been taken into custody.
