Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla approved the no-confidence resolution against the government on behalf of the I.N.D.I.A. coalition, which was presented by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on July 26 in New Delhi.

After Gogoi’s motion was made, the Speaker called for a tally of those in favour. The timing for the discussion, he indicated, will be determined at a later date. After the call for no-confidence was approved by the Speaker, business in the House could proceed as usual. Political opponents have spoken out against government legislation.

Since the start of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 20, there have been many adjournments in the two Houses.

Gogoi is a member of parliament for the northeastern state of Assam’s Kaliabor seat.

The nine-member Bharat Rashtra Samithi party in the Lok Sabha has submitted a notice of motion of no confidence in the administration.

The administration is “ready” for any scenario, according to Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

Let the vote of no confidence come, the government is prepared for everything. Yes, we’d want to talk about Manipur. It was important for them to have a talk before the session started. After we reached a consensus, they raised the topic of rules. We had just settled on Rules when they raised the new problem of having the PM kick off the discussion. These are, I believe, all justifications…” The ANI quoted Meghwal.

Earlier in the day, Gaurav Gogoi had filed a notice for a motion of no confidence in the government in the Lok Sabha.

The opposition I.N.D.I.A. coalition parties decided on Tuesday to file a resolution of no confidence. A coalition of 26 opposition groups called I.N.D.I.A. had formed previously.

To get a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a variety of topics, including the violence in Manipur, opposition MPs have declared they are willing to introduce a no-confidence move despite knowing the numbers are against the government in the Lok Sabha.
