Administrators have UT’s economy on the up and up, according to reports; Bloody hands of those who led young people astray; The days of gang warfare, state-sponsored terrorism, and shortened academic and professional programmes (150 days) are over; The revelry of the nighttime crowd; Normal Joe living a stress-free existence; Hoteliers, shikara wallahs, and rickshaw drivers are all benefiting from the calm.
12 August, Srinagar (KNO): During his Saturday address, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha claimed that certain individuals had created J&K a “conflict economy just to benefit themselves and leave common man suffer,” but that the current government has gradually taken the UT out of financial turmoil.
According to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the LG made these remarks at the closing ceremony of the Samagra Awaas-Convergence programme, which is part of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). The LG claimed that some people were happy to see J&K’s economy choked and limited because it was to their benefit. His words were, “Common man was left to suffer.”
It was built up over time, according to the LG, and now “we have as stable economy.” What has changed in the last four years? is a question often asked. “Let me tell them that street violence is a history, Pakistan-sponsored terrorism has almost ended, and closing schools, colleges, and businesses for 150 days a year is also a history now,” he added, adding that “peace prevails across UT and youth could be seen enjoying night life after so many decades.”
The LG reported seeing young people, guitars in hand and ice cream in the other, making their way home late at night after a hard day. This is a major shift, he acknowledged. The cities of Kashmir have “an European look and feel.”
He discussed how beneficial the 1.88 million visitors to J&K were last year. “It was the local auto-drivers, taxi drivers, tourism players, and their children who, after a long wait, enjoyed peace and earned a livelihood to their satisfaction,” the LG added, as reported by KNO.
The LG made the statement that the hands of those who misdirected the young of J&K are stained with the blood of innocents without mentioning any specific individuals. “J&K is full of talent and youth will shine in various fields,” he said, adding that he hopes to see a large turnout for the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations throughout the state. He said that people had been denied the opportunity to take part in I-Day celebrations in the past.
The LG distributed Rs 150 crore in installments to recipients of the PMAY-Gramin programme during the ceremony. In a speech, he said, “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are dedicated to inclusive development and reaching the last mile,” and that “My prime objective is to liberate marginalised section of society from clutches of under-development and to ensure that every family enjoys benefits of peace and prosperity.” By giving land to the homeless, we want to give them a better chance at a prosperous future.
The Lt. Governor made an announcement that all 3.39 million eligible dwellings out of a total of 3.42 million sanctioned to J&K under PMAY-G have been authorised, highlighting the progress documented under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana. The recipients were given the keys to 1.74 million homes. He also said that the remaining homes’ building work will be finished by the end of the current fiscal year.
Providing shelter for low-income families and expanding access to benefits via coordinated efforts to raise standards of living are two of our top priorities. Aatma-Nirbhar J&K aims to “empower the last person in the queue and make our villages self-sufficient.”
