The two sides agreed that the bilateral relationship between India and China is important for both nations as well as the rest of the globe.

South Africa, July 26: The situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) has weakened the strategic trust between the two countries, according to NSA Ajit Doval, who delivered a strong warning to China on the sidelines of the 13th BRICS National Security Advisors (NSA) conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Doval emphasised the need of ongoing efforts to fully resolve the problem and re-establish calm in the border areas during a meeting with China’s senior diplomat Wang Yi.

“During the meeting, NSA conveyed that the situation along the LAC in the Western Sector of the India-China boundary since 2020 had eroded strategic trust and the public and political basis of the relationship,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official release.

In order to eliminate obstacles to regular bilateral ties, the NSA stressed the significance of ongoing efforts to thoroughly settle the issue and restore peace and tranquilly in the border regions. The bilateral relationship between India and China, the two sides agreed, is important not only for the two nations but also for the region and the whole globe.

On Tuesday, outside of the BRICS NSAs’ Meeting in Johannesburg, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had a meeting with Wang Yi, a member of the CPC Political Bureau and the director of the CPC Foreign Affairs Commission.

Since 1962, there have been several boundary conflicts between China and India. The most recent conflict took place in the Galwan valley in June 2020 between Indian and Chinese soldiers.

Doval had already attended the ‘Friends of BRICS’ gathering on July 24 in Johannesburg.

According to reports, he said that as disruptive technologies like artificial intelligence, big data, and the internet of things become more widespread, the seriousness of cyber dangers would rise dramatically.

In addition, Doval met informally with Russian Federation Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev to discuss security and economic cooperation between the two nations, according to a statement from the Russian embassy in India.

Terrorism continues to be one of the biggest dangers to the peace and security of the country, he stressed.

He noted that designating terrorists and their proxies under the United Nations counter-terrorism sanctions framework is an issue on which BRICS may cooperate, asserting that terror outfits in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region continue to operate with impunity.

Doval said that the meeting is taking place at a period of significant turbulence in the international security environment and that it is crucial that the UN Security Council sanctions committee’s decision-making be free from politicisation and double standards.

The NSA said that uncertainty and escalating tensions characterise the state of global security. The Covid-19 pandemic’s impacts are still being covered by the world economy.

Affirming India’s sustained support for South Africa’s BRICS chairship this year, he also acknowledged the cooperation shown by South Africa for India’s G20 Presidency.
