December 26,SRINAGAR: The State Tax Department (STD) in Kashmir has retrieved a sum of Rs. 3.86 crore from individuals who failed to provide adequate documentation, such as GST invoices and e-way bills, between April 2023 and November 2023. This also covers special enforcement drives targeting Central Kashmiri brick kilns, mostly in Budgam District, and hotels in Pahalgam and Gulmarg. Surprising checks were also carried out against the coaching centers that operate in the valley.

In comparison to the previous fiscal year, there has been a notable rise in penalties of 124% levied, while penalties recovered have increased by 46.13%. Hotels, brick kilns, building materials, electric and electronic products, scrap metal, and other major industries have all been subject to fines.

Kashmir’s Additional Commissioner for the State Tax Department’s Administration and Enforcement In order to establish a strong deterrent, Shakeel Maqbool expressed appreciation for the performance and advised the officers to step up their enforcement efforts, paying particular attention to transporters who are moving products without the required invoices and e-way bills. He also advocated placing unexpected Nakas at different transition points.
