The Ramban Times reports that as of Tuesday, August 1, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was still accessible to both light and heavy vehicles travelling in and out of Kashmir.
Highway construction between Nashri and Banihal sector has been reported to have slowed traffic flow due to single-lane road sections on and near the work sites.
“Similarly, the breakdown of a few HMVs between the Nashri and Banihal sectors of the highway slowed the movement of traffic on the single-lane road stretches at Dalwass and Mehar Cafeteria,” they said.
Ramban’s traffic authorities confirmed that the route was open and that hundreds of light- and medium-duty vehicles (LMVs) continued to travel along it without incident.
At the same time, the J&K Traffic Department has issued a new warning for Wednesday, indicating that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, cars transporting Amarnath Yatris and other LMVs would be permitted to go on both sides of the route.
HMVs will be permitted to ply the route from Srinagar to Jammu on Wednesday once the road and traffic condition is evaluated.
