India, August 1st: Officials from the Indian Army have said that a new uniform guideline has been established for senior officers at the Brigadier level and beyond, regardless of their parent cadre or date of first appointment.
They said this will further solidify the Indian Army’s reputation for fairness and equality among its members. The conclusion was reached following exhaustive discussions at the recently ended Army Commanders Conference and after hearing from all relevant parties.
Senior officers of flag rank (Brigadier and above) will now have uniform headgear, shoulder rank badges, gorget patches, belts, and shoes, according to officials. Flag-rank officers will thus no longer be required to use lanyards.
The move, according to the authorities, is meant to foster and reinforce a unified identity and attitude in military concerns among senior leadership across the bounds of regiments.
commanders with the rank of brigadier or above have often led smaller units or battalions and are now stationed at larger facilities where commanders from several branches of the military work together.
Officials believe that a unified uniform for all top commanders would better represent the spirit of the Indian Army.
Army authorities assured the public that the uniforms used by Lieutenant Colonels and lower-ranking officers would not be changing.
