Jammu, August 16: Under the watchful eye of relevant authorities, a special initiative to perform surprise inspections of drug sale businesses was launched in Jammu Province on Wednesday.
On the spot prohibitions were issued under section 22 (d) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 for a total of twelve retail sale facilities (four in Jammu, three in Samba District, two in Poonch District, and one each in Kathua and Ramban). Suspensions occurred for a variety of reasons, including a lack of sales records, impersonation, unsafe storage, etc.
They explained that they were conducting this campaign to guarantee that pharmacists were acting lawfully and in the best interests of their patients while dispensing drugs containing addictive components to those who needed them.
Nearly two hundred samples of statutory drugs across multiple categories were randomly taken for testing of potency and purity. To determine their quality standards and guarantee that only high-quality medicines are reaching the end users, these samples were sent to Drug Testing Laboratories located inside the U.T of J&K for drafting legal opinion.
Furthermore, under section 23 of the medications & Cosmetics Act, Regulatory Officers of the organisation have seized stocks of medications totaling Rs 3,86,100 that were deemed to be in violation of the D&C Act.
Form 16 reports that during the operation, drugs with a street value of Rs 27,465 were confiscated from a store in Lower Kud whose owners had illegally gained custody and authorization from the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Udhampur. The matter has been opened for investigation, and the accused has been given Notice in accordance with section 18 (a) in preparation for future legal action.
Meanwhile, a wholesale company in Rajouri had its licence revoked for engaging in illegal activities.
