Vehicles may be impounded and registration may be cancelled if the challan is not properly disposed of, according to the law.
The traffic police officials in Srinagar have warned 7,366 car owners that if they don’t resolve their outstanding e-challans by August 9 that their vehicles would be seized.
Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, the SSP for traffic in Srinagar, published a notification that cited a court ruling. “This office is in receipt of a court order dated 28.07.2023 issued by the Court of Special Mobile Magistrate (Traffic) Srinagar annexed with a list of 7366 vehicles with Pending E-Court Challans shown against each, with the directions that the owners of these vehicles be informed for disposal of the challans against their vehicles by or before 09.08.2023,” said the notice.
It stated that in light of the foregoing, the list of vehicles along with the outstanding challans issued by the Court is hereby distributed to the general public with the recommendation that the vehicle owners/violators whose challans are shown outstanding in the list against each, appear before the Court of Special Mobile Magistrate, Traffic Srinagar for disposition of the challans by or before 09.08.2023.
According to the relevant sections of the M.V. Act read with its associated regulations, strict action would be taken against offenders who failed to comply, and would result in the impoundment of cars and a proposal to terminate registration, it stated.
