August 7th, Srinagar: Dr. Mehboob Beg, the PDP’s General Secretary (Organisation), has commented on the Supreme Court proceedings regarding the abrogation of Article 370, saying that the actions taken on August 5, 2019, were not only unlawful but also followed no established legal process.
Beg, in his speech, said that people may have breathed a sigh of relief if the Supreme Court had taken suo-moto notice of the case immediately after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution and instructed the government of India not to continue with any consequential action. Dr. Beg went on to explain that Article 370 was only temporary since the Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir hadn’t ratified it yet, not because it was going to be repealed.
The PDP leader continued by saying that although people shouldn’t give up hope, they should also be cautious about having unrealistic expectations since so much time has gone and so many choices have been enacted in the former State since Article 370 was repealed. In addition, resisting in a constitutional manner is the greatest approach to fight for one’s constitutional rights, as stated by Beg.
