Aaqib Parray

Born on December 14, 1973, in Baghdad, Iraq, Naqeeb ul-Ashraf Sayyed Hashim Al-Gaylani is a Sufi saint and a descendant of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani, the founder of the Qadiri Order. He currently maintains his ancestor Sheikh Abdulqadir Gilani’s mausoleum.

Background and Education

The Gaylani family, of which Shaykh Hashim Al-Gaylani is a member, are well-respected Muslims who trace their lineage back to Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani, one of the Prophet Muhammad’s direct descendants. The Qadiri Sufi Order can trace its roots back to Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani, who is revered as the Sultan ul Awliya, or King of the Saints. Abdul-Aziz Al-Gaylani, son of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Gaylani, succeeded to the custodianship, which was passed down through the generations to Sayyid Abdul-Rahman Gaylani. After the demise of the Ottoman Empire, Sayyid Abdul-Rahman Al Gaylani became the country’s first prime minister and the modern-day Naqib ul-Ashraf. In Iraq, he oversaw Muhammad’s offspring in his role as Naqib al-Ashraf.

From his father’s side, Sheikh Hashim ul-din is a direct descendant of Sheikh Abdul-Rahman Al Gaylani, the first prime minister of the independent Iraqi state, and Naqib ul Ashraf. He attended schools in Baghdad and went on to study at the Madrasa Qadiriyya with Sharif Abdul-Karim Mudarres. He came to him seeking the greatest academic degree, the Ijaza Ilmiyya, and left having mastered Islamic law and Tasawuf. In addition, he has a background in economics.

Custodianship over the Grand Mosque

Sheikh Abdul Qadir Mansor ul-Din Gaylani’s son has taken over the leadership of the big mosque of his ancestor, Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani, in Baghdad and the worldwide dissemination of the Qadiri Sufi Way since the death of his father in 2011. The United Kingdom, the United States, South Africa, India, and Pakistan are where he has established most of his bases from which to spread the Qadiri message. In addition to promoting the adoration of his forefather, Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gaylani, the main focus of his teachings is the proclamation of traditional Sunni Islam, with an emphasis on the authentic teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. As a result, many of his devotees hold him in high esteem.
As the most prominent and influential member of the Qadiri Sufi order in Iraq, he is widely recognized as the current Naqib ul-Ashraf, or leader of the Prophet Muhammad’s direct descendants.
