Srinagar, December 23: Senior Vice President of the J&K People’s Conference (PC) and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil brought attention to the urgent problem of rising young unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir, which is contributing to a worrisome increase in drug use.

While visiting and giving speeches at worker’s gatherings in Lagripora, Alsafa Colony, Hadipora, Yarbug, and Laiser in Rafiabad and Sopore, Vakil underscored the pressing need for prompt government involvement to avert the impending collapse of the young demographic.
Vakil expressed grave concerns about the unmet promises made by the UT government about job chances. He highlighted that the educated youth’s guarantees went unfulfilled and had a major influence on the lives of many aspirants. The current Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has promised to create jobs and speed up the process, but so far, his words have not materialized. As a result, the hopes and dreams of the younger generation remain unfulfilled.

Vakil brought attention to the matter by pointing out that even though many departments posted a lot of job openings, the unemployment situation has been made worse by the lack of progress in filling these jobs. The poor circumstances have resulted in a significant increase in drug usage among young people and a growing disengagement from society, endangering the wellbeing of the country.

Vakil made an urgent plea to the Central government and the UT administration to develop and execute a comprehensive employment program that is especially designed to solve the issues of unemployment that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir are facing. Vakil underlined the need to act quickly to create jobs, saying that doing so will not only end the drug problem but also bring young people back into the mainstream and serve the interests of the country as a whole.
