After being blocked for about a week, the Mughal route, which links the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with Shopian in south Kashmir, was closed to traffic again on June 6th.

GNS cited a government official as saying that the road had been cleansed of landslip debris and was now passable the day before. A landslip happened near Rata Chamb in Surankote this afternoon, forcing the closure of the road to two-way traffic in both directions.

The official warned that it may be some time before the road was cleared of debris. “Men and machinery are on job to clear the debris from the thoroughfare,” he added.

Meanwhile, hundreds of cars are stuck on each side of the highway. Many automobiles are said to be transporting believers to Wangath Ganderbal for the yearly fair.
