Ganderbal, May 29: The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) departments of Kashmiri, Urdu, and English held a poetry competition on environmental concerns on Monday at the Arts campus here.

The topic of the competition was “Our Planet: Our Environment and Our Campus Mass Mobilisation On Mission LIFE.”

In the Kashmiri department’s poetry competition, second-semester student Ruqaya Farooq took first place, followed by fourth-semester student Asif Tariq in second place, and second-semester student Yawar Ahmad Shah in third place.

Dr. Irfan Alam, Sr Asst Prof. Dr. Ihsan Malik, faculty members, research researchers, and students were also present.

Shams-ud-Din won first place in the Urdu department’s poetry competition, with Fayaz Ahmad Wani and Anayatullah coming in second and third place, respectively. Prof. Gayas ud Din, Dean School of Languages, Dr. Nusrat Jabeen, Deputy DSW, faculty members, scholars, and students were also present.

Basit won first place in the English department’s poetry competition, while Junaid ul Islam took second place. Sunil Kumar Manil, the coordinator, and other academic members were also present.

Throughout the competition, students from all three departments used their poems to highlight the worsening environmental circumstances and to advocate for steps to safeguard the environment from further damage.
