Bandipora, north Kashmir, June 2: On Friday, heavy rains and hailstorms caused widespread damage.

Apparently, thunderstorms and heavy rain hit several portions of the district starting in the late afternoon, according to locals. Crops in the vicinity may have been wiped out by the hailstorms that followed the rains, orchardists warned.

Aloosa, Kehenusa, Papchan, Ashentengoo, Gamroo, Quil Muqam, Malangam, Binlipora, and other neighbourhoods suffered damage from the hail and rain, it was reported.

According to Quil orchardist Rafiq Ahamd, the hail lasted for close to twenty minutes, wreaking havoc on the season’s little apple harvest.

Residents of the plains and other outlying parts of the towns stated the heavy rains caused the drains to overflow.

Officials said that they were attempting to quantify the hailstorm’s impact on the district’s agriculture.
