Jammu, Jun 15: If you haven’t been able to pay your residential electricity bill for the past two months or if your commercial bill is more than Rs 1 lakh, here’s an important update: Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has decided to disconnect all such connections remotely without any notice or information.

Official sources told a news agency that on June 12, the Power Distribution Department held a meeting where the government’s top official talked about ways to make the power situation easier in the summer. There were talks about how to stop unpaid energy bills from piling up and how to get the money back.

After the meetings, JPDCL sent out two separate orders telling field workers to remotely cut off the power connection of commercial establishments that owed more than Rs. 1.0 Lacs in electricity bills as of May 31, 2023, and domestic connections that hadn’t paid for two months in a row.

The directions say, “The physical disconnections of smart metered consumers can be done remotely through backend commands from IT&C Division, JPDCL, Jammu’s Control Centre.”

The link of people who don’t have smart metres will be cut off when field staff go to their homes.

Before taking appropriate action, the official also told them to teach and persuade them to pay for the power they used on time.

At the meeting, it was also made clear that customers shouldn’t be reconnected until all of their past-due bills have been paid in full. No matter what, no split payments will be allowed for any reason.
