Thursday, May 18th, in Srinagar, the family of incarcerated separatist leader Shabir Shah said that they were harassed by police during a search operation.

In a statement, the Srinagar Police Department said that the G20 was unrelated to the reason for the searches in the area—inputs of terrorist movement.

Separatist Shabir Shah’s daughter has tweeted that she was harassed during the search operation. When intelligence indicated that terrorists were on the move in the area, authorities conducted a search of 20 homes. Inputs are handled routinely and have nothing to do with the G-20, the statement said.

All Standard Operating Procedures were adhered to, and it was stated that nobody was harassed or hurt in any way throughout this search.

Police added, “The woman is curiously tying this with G-20, more unusual is an ex CM linking this too with event, although she herself was privy to such search in specific location owing to terrorist sighting.

It was revealed that the search party included three Deputy Superintendents, four female officers, and others.

“Such attempts of forwarding malicious agenda of attributing routine security measures to an event by family of a separatist undergoing Jail in a terror funding case shows sheer frustration of some vested interests,” the statement said.

Sehar Shah, daughter of inmate Shabir Shah, had previously complained of harassment by security personnel during the search. She tweeted, “If this was because of G20, this is the highest level of harassment we faced today.”
