16 June, Srinagar: On Friday night, temperatures dropped over much of Jammu and Kashmir, as forecasted light showers hit the region.

According to GNS, which cited an official from the meteorological department, Srinagar had a low of 15.6 degrees Celsius, which was 0.8 degrees Celsius warmer than average for the summer capital.

According to him, the temperature at Qazigund, the entrance to Kashmir, dropped to 14.0 degrees Celsius rather than the more typical 16.0 degrees the night before.

He said that Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, had a nighttime low of 7.8 degrees Celsius, down from the previous night’s 10.1 degrees Celsius, and 0.7 degrees Celsius below average.

He said that the mercury in Kupwara town dropped to 11.4 degrees Celsius at night, down from 14.7 degrees the night before, and 1.8 degrees Celsius lower than average for the north Kashmir region.

Officials said that Kokernag had a low of 13.4 degrees Celsius, which was 0.3 degrees Celsius higher than the average for the area. The previous night’s low was 14.3 degrees Celsius.

For the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla region, Gulmarg reported a low of 7.6°C, down from 9.5°C the night before and 0.7°C below average.

He said that the overnight low in Jammu was 24.5 degrees Celsius, which was 1.0 degrees Celsius lower than average for the winter capital of J&K.

The low temperature was 16.2 degrees Celsius in Banihal, 16.1 degrees Celsius in Batote, 21.6 degrees Celsius in Katra, and 15.0 degrees Celsius in Bhaderwah (above average by 1.3 degrees Celsius).

The Jammu and Kashmir Meteorological Department has predicted scattered light rainfall till June 17.
