Kupwara, December 20: People who live in the Magam area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are very angry at the Jal Shakti Department for not giving them clean drinking water, which has made their lives very hard.

People in more than a dozen towns have been complaining for fifteen days that they don’t have enough water, but the officials haven’t done anything despite repeated requests.

Residents said they have to use dirty water from a nearby stream because they can’t get clean water from the tap. This puts them at risk of getting diseases that are spread by water.

“We’ve been really suffering for the past fifteen days because we can’t get water.” Magam is made up of several towns, and they are all suffering from the bitter cold. “The Jal Shakti Department has kept a water tanker on hand, but that is not enough,” a local told Greater Kashmir.

Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Department Handwara told Greater Kashmir that the deep well that supplies water to the whole Magam has dried up. “There is another bore well that we dug, but the water is not safe to drink. “Till the problem is redressed, we will be giving them water by tankers,” he added.
