3 dead, one wounded as Udhampur truck crashes into gorge

At roughly 8:40 a.m., the accident happened in front of the Everard Nagar Bus Stop while the cement mixer truck driver was travelling from Mumbai to Vashi in the north.

On Sunday, a cement mixer truck driver lost control and slammed into a scooter travelling by and a stopped PUC van on the Eastern Express Highway near Chunabhatti, leaving one person dead and two others injured.

The collision happened at roughly 8:40 a.m. in front of the Everard Nagar Bus Stop while the cement mixer truck driver was travelling from Mumbai to Vashi in the north, according to the police. Abdul Siddiqui, 30, the driver of the still-running PUC vehicle, suffered injuries as well.

The scooter driver, Abdul Salam Abdul Rok Shaikh, 38, a resident of Baiganwadi Govandi, was killed in the collision, while Suraj Sunil Shigwan, 23, who was riding pillion, was injured, according to senior police inspector Anil Desai of Chunabhatti Police Station.


Shigwan, a Chembur resident, has been taken to the Sion Municipal Hospital. Siddiqui, the driver of the PUC van, was also brought to Sion Hospital.

The driver of the RCC, 29-year-old Riyan Mohmmad Ali, was also rushed to Shatabdi Hospital with minor wounds. According to Desai, the police discovered him via the owner of the car and took him into custody from the hospital.

The car will be seized and transported to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for further examination, according to the police, when an Alternative Dispute Redressal (ADR) is filed. The vehicle’s condition will be a part of this.
