ANI Anantnag, Sep 14: On Thursday, the joint operation against terrorists in the Kokernag neighbourhood of the Anantnag district was resumed by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

A battle with terrorists occurred on Wednesday in the Kokernag region of Kashmir’s Anantnag district, during which a Major, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, and an Indian Army Colonel who was heading a Rashtriya Rifles Unit were all slain.

The deceased officers have been named as Major Ashish Dhonak, DSP Humayun Bhat, and Colonel Manpreet Singh.

“A Major and an Indian Army Colonel who was in charge of a unit of the Rashtriya Rifles were killed in an encounter with terrorists in Anantnag, Kashmir. The off-vet was in charge of 19 RR, according to Indian Army sources.

The Kashmir Zone Police posted the following on the microblogging site X: “In sombre homage to the unflinching bravery of Col Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak, & DSP Humayun Bhat who lay down their life leading from the front during this current operation. Our soldiers continue to surround two LET terrorists, including Uzair Khan, with unrelenting commitment.

On Wednesday night in Budgam, the DSP Humayun Muzammil Bhat’s last rites were conducted.

Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed his sorrow for the officers’ deaths in the encounter.

“Paid respects to JKP DySP Humayun Bhat, who lost his life in Anantnag during a counterterrorism operation. I applaud Col. Manpreet Singh and Major. Ashish Dhonack for their unwavering bravery and heroic sacrifice. The whole country strongly supports their families at this time of sorrow, the LG office said in a message on the social networking website X.
