21 September in Johannesburg Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala, two fast bowlers for South Africa, have been ruled out of the team for the forthcoming Men’s ODI World Cup in India owing to injury, according to Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday.

All-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo and seam bowler Lizaad Williams will take their places in the 15-player World Cup roster. Nortje, 29, left the pitch after just five overs of bowling in the second One-Day International against Australia earlier this month due to lower back spasms.

CSA included Nortje received expert evaluations and scans, which indicated a possible low back (lumbar) stress fracture. He will be cared for by an expert team for the remainder of his recuperation.

According to CSA, Magala was given every chance to make a complete recovery and participate. The danger of having him on the team ultimately won out over his evident contribution to the group, it was concluded.

Due to a broken right thumb, Nortje missed the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. Nortje’s loss is a big setback to South Africa since, in addition to prior tours with the Proteas, he has extensive experience playing in India because to his time with Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
