The Ministry of Home Affairs is monitoring the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir attentively and continuously, in tandem with the government of Jammu and Kashmir and the Ministry of Defence. The information that was made public in the MHA annual report for 2022–23 implies that there has been a drop in violence of almost 70 percent over the course of the previous eight years and that steps have been put into place to put an end to the terrorism that has been sponsored by Pakistan for over three decades.

According to the MHA study, the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been afflicted with terrorist and secessionist activity for approximately thirty years, which has been sponsored and backed from across the border.

The paper presents an analysis of the patterns of terrorist violence that have occurred in Jammu and Kashmir over the course of the last few years and the current year.

The numbers imply that about 2197 episodes of violence were registered during the nine years that the BJP headed the national government, from June 2014 to August 2023. In comparison, the number of incidents of violence reported in J&K for the period from 2004 to May 2014 was 7217.

According to the data, there has been a decrease in violence in J&K that is seventy percent lower since Prime Minister Modi has been in charge of the country’s affairs.

According to the study, there were 336 deaths of civilians during the period of June 2014 to August 2023, whereas the number of civilian deaths documented during the period of June 2004 to May 2014 was 1769.

It is also stated that the number of deaths of civilians and members of the security forces increased to 891 between June 2014 and August 2023, while the number of deaths of civilians and members of the security forces decreased to 2829 between June 2004 and May 2014.

In a similar vein, there were 555 fatalities among members of the security forces between June 2014 and August 2023, whereas there were 1060 fatalities among members of the security forces between June 2004 and May 2014.

According to the report, the government of the Centre, in conjunction with the government of J&K, has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to contain cross-border infiltration. This strategy includes improving the border infrastructure, deploying multiple tiers of troops along the International Border (IB), the Line of Control (LoC), and near the ever-changing infiltration routes, constructing and maintaining border fencing, building culverts and bridges on nullahs, and improving the technology.

In addition, the government has implemented a variety of countermeasures in order to nullify the efforts and capabilities of terrorists who are upsetting the peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

The government has also supported efforts to integrate young people into mainstream society by giving them employment opportunities in an effort to wean them away from involvement in terrorist activities.
