Srinagar, December 26: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Jammu on Wednesday to assess the security situation in the region following the deaths of three civilians who were allegedly taken into custody by the army for interrogation and the four soldiers who were killed in an ambush on an Army vehicle in the Rajouri district this week.

Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Jammu tomorrow, according to an official, to assess the security situation in light of the current counterterrorism operation in the Rajouri-Poonch area, which has resulted in the deaths of four army personnel on December 21.

In order to evaluate the situation on the ground, Army Chief General Manoj Pande visited Rajouri-Poonch on Monday. While there, he was briefed by top Army brass on the ongoing counterterrorism operations and the measures being taken to fortify the security grid.

According to official sources, the Army attached a brigade commander on Monday as well.

After four troops were killed in a terror assault on December 21, the Army has already authorized an investigation into the event that resulted in the deaths of three civilians in Rajouri.

Three civilian deaths were the subject of an official investigation that included the Brigade Commander of the 13-Sector Rashtriya Rifles.

On December 21, militants attacked two army trucks in the Derr Ki Gali district of Rajouri, resulting in the deaths of four troops. The army conducted a significant counterterrorism operation in the Rajouri and Pooch districts after the incident.

A number of residents were detained for interrogation during the operation, but three civilians are said to have perished. Shortly after, footage of the torture of citizens by uniformed personnel went viral on social media.

In addition to announcing employment and compensation to the relatives of the dead, the government initiated an investigation into the event after people died.
