Jammu, September 12: State Election Commissioner (SEC), B. R. Sharma, called a meeting today to discuss the steps taken to include left-out voters in the Panchayat Electoral Roll through a new Supplement.
During the review meeting, the SEC requested that DCs make sure that no eligible voters with regard to 1.1.23 as the qualifying date be left out of the present process of updating, which will begin on September 20 and end on October 10. The Deputy Commissioners were given a rough timeframe for when pre-updation activities would begin.
Brief discussions were held during the meeting regarding the Panchayat Electoral Rolls-2023 availability in both soft and hard copies for displaying the same in order to prepare the 2-d Supplement, the printing of electoral rolls and forms and the availability of infrastructure, the strategy to include new voters in the Panchayat rolls whose names already exist in the Assembly Rolls with regard to January 1, 2023 as the qualifying date, the availability of ERO/AERO/ Panchayat Election Booth Officials (PEBO) and the updating
The mechanism of updation and printing both online and offline mode i e (passwords etc for the users & user IDS and role of NIC/DIOs), requirement of funds by each District for the Electoral Roll (Updation & SVEEP activity), tentative Schedule of Revision, Handbook for revision of rolls, meeting of DCs with District Technical team headed by DIO of concerned District and (ERO/AERO/PLBOs) along with RDD functionaries Was also discussed.
In order to conduct the election, the SEC requested information from all deputy commissioners regarding polling places, physical verification of polling places, classification of polling places into various categories, availability of minimum basic facilities, migrant voters, in addition to other special categories of voters, and Panchayat-level availability of their data.
