New Delhi, India, September 26 Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur announced on Tuesday that venerable actor Waheeda Rehman will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for her distinguished contribution to Indian cinema.
On X (previously known as Twitter), Thakur penned a lengthy note and made the announcement.
This year, the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Waheeda Rehman ji for her outstanding contributions to Indian cinema, he said.
“Waheeda Ji has received critical acclaim for her roles in numerous Hindi films, including Pyaasa, Kaagaz ki Phool, Chaudhavi Ka Chand, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi, and others. In a career spanning more than five decades, she has portrayed her roles with exceptional skill, earning her a National Film Award for her portrayal of a clanswoman in the film Reshma and Shera. Waheeda ji, a recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, exemplifies the dedication, commitment, and fortitude of a Bharatiya Nari who, through her diligence, can accomplish the highest level of professional excellence.
Waheed Rehman receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award is a fitting tribute to one of the most prominent actresses in Indian cinema, according to Thakur, who referred to the Women’s Reservation Bill’s passage by Parliament.
“At a time when the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam has been passed by Parliament, her being awarded this lifetime achievement award is a fitting tribute to one of the leading ladies of Indian cinema, who has dedicated her life after films to philanthropy and the greater good of society.”
Thakur congratulated the veteran actress and stated, “I humbly pay my respects to her extensive body of work, which is an integral part of our film history.”
Waheeda Rehman is well-known for her outstanding performances in films such as ‘Guide’, ‘Pyaasa’, ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’, ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand’, and ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’. (ANI)
