IndiGo A321-252NX (Neo) VT-IMG, operating flight 6E-6183, sector Kolkata – Delhi, reportedly sustained tail damage upon landing in Delhi, as reported by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The flight was smooth right up until we were getting close to Delhi. The pilots decided to do a go-around after they drifted for longer than usual during the approach to runway 27. According to DGCA, the aircraft was damaged when its tail impacted the ground during the go-around procedure.

It also noted that the operational crew had been taken off-roster awaiting inquiry.

According to a high-ranking DGCA official, an investigation has been launched and the aircraft has been put on the ground pending the results.

When an airplane’s rear end, also known as its empennage, crashes into the ground or another immovable object during takeoff or landing, this is known as a tail strike.
