12 June, Srinagar: BSF’s explosive find in Handwara was an ancient mortar shell, not an IED, according to the police.

According to GNS, a police officer claimed, “information was generated wherein a Road Opening Party of BSF said it recovered a ‘IED’ in general area of Bhatpura village near a culvert.” Close inspection revealed the recovered ammo to be an ancient mortar round, however.

“The recovered shell may have been lying at the site for quite some time,” the source said.
