Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS)’s previous director and administrative officer were charged with fraud in the appointment of an oncology professor on Friday, June 16 by the Crime Branch Kashmir in Srinagar.
Mohammad Shafi Malla [the then Administrative Officer (Policy) of SKIMS Soura] and Dr. A.G Ahangar [the then Director of SKIMS Soura] were charged in a case brought before the Court of Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir, according to a statement released today by the Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar (Crime Branch Kashmir).
Crime Branch Kashmir received a written complaint alleging that the Director of SKIMS Soura had fraudulently and unlawfully promoted an ineligible individual to the position of Professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology at SKIMS Soura. It was also claimed that Director SKIMS Soura, abusing his authority, illegally re-advertised the vacancy for which the selection process had been stayed by the Hon’ble High Court of J&K. This allowed for the selection of a candidate who was not qualified for the position.
After gathering the aforementioned data, we began the Preliminary Verification process, which led to the filing of the current case.
The Chargesheet alleging violations of Sections 418, 420, 466, and 511 of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act was submitted to the Honourable Court of the Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption in Kashmir.
