June 20, Delhi: The Central government appointed 12 top Indian Police Service (IPS) personnel to Special Directors and Special Directors General in a significant bureaucratic overhaul involving the intelligence branch, anti-terror agency, and three critical Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

Six of these 12 “hard-core officers” have been promoted to Special Directors in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Special Directors General in the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and National Investigation Agency (NIA). These officers are from various 1989 and 1990 cadres.

The ACC accepted these nominations on Monday after receiving suggestions from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The IB upgraded five Additional Directors to Special Directors, including Uttarakhand cadre 1989-batch IPS officer Safi Ahsan Rizvi.

A Ministry of Personnel statement says Rizvi has been posted to the new rank against an existing vacancy from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Five other IB officers were promoted on a “in situ basis” by temporarily upgrading their posts of Additional Director.

Rahul Rashgotra, Vivek Srivastava, TV Ravichandran, Rajiv Ranjan Verma, and Harinath Mishra are the other IB Special Directors.

PV Ramasashtry, a 1989-bath IPS officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre, and his one-batch junior YB Khurania of Odisha cadre have been elevated to Special Director General against vacancies from the date of assumption of duty or till further instructions, whichever is sooner. BSF Additional DG.

CRPF Special Director Generals Daljit Singh Chaudhary and SS Chaturvedi are 1990-batch IPS officers. CRPF’s Additional DG.

Due to the lack of sanctioned roles, the ACC granted two “in situ” promotions. The officers are Rajasthan’s 1989-batch Nina Singh and Maharashtra’s 1990-batch AM Kulkarni.

Singh was elevated to Special Director General on an in situ basis for a two-year term or until further instructions, whichever is sooner. CISF’s Additional DG.

However, Kulkarni has been appointed as Special Director General in the NIA on an in situ basis from the date of his assumption of charge until January 31, 2024, or his superannuation, whichever is earlier. He’s NIA’s Additional DG.
