Omar Abdullah, the vice president of the National Conference and the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, said on Tuesday that there is no reason to believe that the rights that were taken away from the people on August 5, 2019, would be restored while the BJP is in control of the government.

“From the very beginning, we have been clear that whatever has been taken away from us, we do not have any hopes or expectations that it would be returned to us under the current administration. Omar has said that “we want our rights back through legal procedure, and we hope that the hearings in this regard will be held frequently in the Supreme Court.”

In response to a question, he said that attempts were constantly being made to divide the opposition parties everywhere, such as in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Karnataka, and even the parties in J&K have been split and new parties have been founded. He also mentioned that this was the case.

When questioned about Shah Faesal’s decision to withdraw his petition challenging Article 370, Omar responded by stating that Shah Faesal has the right to do anything he wants, even withdraw his plea, since he was not compelled to submit a plea, and nobody has forced him to withdraw it. Omar was responding to a question concerning Shah Faesal’s decision.

In response to a question on the cohesiveness of the opposition on a national basis, he said that the power of the opposition can only be determined via electoral competition.

On the other hand, he said that the BJP has chosen not to hold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir since the party is aware that it won’t even be able to win 10 seats there.

In addition, he said that the right to vote is a democratic prerogative; nevertheless, the BJP is in no mood to organise elections due to their fears of underperforming in the polls.
