A huge landslip in the Ramban area of Jammu and Kashmir destroyed a tunnel being built under the national highway not far from Cafeteria Morh. There were no recorded casualties. “There is minor damage to the under-construction tunnel near Cafeteria Morh in the Ramban district of J&K,” the official added.

The footage showed a section of a tunnel that was still in the building process collapsing as a result of the massive landslip. The national highway between Jammu and Srinagar has been reopened with no reports of casualties or damage.
As part of the 4-lane Jammu-Srinagar national highway project, a tunnel is now being built. The Ramban district’s status as a landslide-prone location continues to pose a significant problem for the project.

Nitin Gadkari, a minister for the Indian government, visited Ramban earlier this year to assess progress. The regular landslides have made it difficult for road building authorities to complete their projects. Professionals are also considering potential modifications to the project.

In May of last year, ten people were killed and three others were saved when a tunnel being built below the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in the Khooni Nala region of Ramban district collapsed.

The national highway between Jammu and Srinagar was hit by firing stones and huge rocks in the Ramban area at the beginning of April. It was reported that the roadway was closed owing to the landslide, but that it reopened after the debris was removed.
