Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi November 28: The first of 41 workers to be evacuated from the Silkyara tunnel has done so after a 17-day marathon operation, and attempts are now being made to free the other stranded personnel.

Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, said that the last stages of the rescue attempts have included shoving pipes through the rubble within the Silkyara tunnel in an attempt to free 41 trapped workers.

“The ongoing rescue operation in the Silkyara Tunnel has been extremely successful; the debris has been successfully navigated by pushing pipes.” The Uttarakhand Chief Minister tweeted on X (formerly Twitter) that “now preparations have been started to evacuate the workers safely.”

Lights are being erected within the pipeline as it approaches the location where the workers are trapped in order to prevent any issues for them during the rescue effort. The laborers’ rescue mission could shortly get underway.

In the meanwhile, personnel from the NDRF and SDRF enter the tunnel in order to rescue the workers; the operation is scheduled to begin in a few minutes.

As one of the rescue operation’s workers puts it, “Everything is fine.” There are four or five NDRF personnel inside. The workers’ rescue operation is already underway. To get the stranded personnel outdoors, we are bringing stretchers inside.

The personnel who were trapped will begin to emerge within the next fifteen to twenty minutes when the rescue operation is over. The workers will be immediately removed by NDRF personnel. The 41 stranded workers will need to be rescued within thirty minutes. A worker participating in the rescue effort said, “There are no obstacles anymore.

The Uttarakhand chief minister and other authorities arrived at the Silkyara tunnel rescue location earlier today.

On November 12, a section of the tunnel collapsed, trapping 41 laborers within the still-under-construction building. The rubble fell in a 60-meter section on the Silkyara side of the tunnel. (ANI)
