Srinagar, December 26: Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and a member of parliament from Srinagar, urged people on Tuesday to resist the forces of division that are attempting to undermine J&K from inside.

He made these remarks today at the party headquarters in Nawa-e-Subha to delegates from the Hazratbal constituency. While Hazratbal Salman Ali Sagar, the in-charge constituency, planned the occasion, Party General Ali Mohammad Sagar also spoke to the group. Women’s Wing Provincial President Er Sabiya Qadri and District President Srinagar Peer Afaq both spoke to the group. In addition to party operations, the gathering covered organizational programs and people’s issues.

“Unity is key to progress and peace,” Dr. Farooq stated, addressing the delegates. Great countries have emerged from societies that have survived polarizing influences. We need to give up identifying as Sikhs, Muslims, or Hindus. We must reject conceit and cling to only one rope. Given the efforts by forces hostile to our distinct political identity to undermine our culture, language, and customs inside our families, it is even more crucial that we protect them. I have no doubt that people will thwart these efforts by stoking the flame of brotherhood and solidarity.

He went on, “I don’t think anything can be accomplished in J&K without a strong sense of togetherness among the many segments of our community. We must give up identifying as Barelvi Deobandi, Shia-Suni, Hindu Muslims, or Muslim-Hindus. Our shared issues—poverty, unemployment, and underdevelopment—cannot be solved until unity in diversity is our credo, which must last forever and in all situations. Our journey into darkness will be facilitated by our mutual disagreement.

He urged the workers to stick to their goal of pulling the populace out of the vortex of suffering by uniting and putting the needs of the group ahead of their own.

“The current bureaucratic set-up has pushed the people of Jammu and Kashmir into a whirlwind of despair, while the youth are frustrated and hopeless; unemployment and the development deficit have crippled our people,” said Party General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar in his speech. Public scrutiny is absent from all choices and acts, and the general public is not given due consideration.

This time, there were also additional young leaders in attendance, including Muhammad Irfan Zehgeer, Abid Wani, Naseer Magrey, Inayat Bhat, Hilal Dar, Saleem Lone, and Faisal Mir.
