Srinagar, September 24: According to sources, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will today preside over a significant gathering of the Core Group of the Jammu and Kashmir BJP branch in New Delhi.

This gathering, which key BJP officials from the Union Territory are attending, occurs in the wake of news about upcoming elections for the Lok Sabha, Panchayats, and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), all of which are expected to take place in the first few months of 2019.

Participants include Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State in the PMO, as well as UT Chief Ashok Koul, former Deputy Chief Ministers Kavinder Gupta and Dr. Nirmal Singh, and BJP MPs Jugal Kishore Sharma and Ravinder Raina. BJP National President J.P. Nadda as well as party executives Tarun Chug and Ashish Sood could possibly participate.

Although the meeting’s agenda is secret, reports indicate that talks on election planning, security situations, and administrative issues would be crucial.

The newly constituted South Kashmir-Poonch seat is one that the BJP is targeting in order to boost its representation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Lok Sabha. The Core Group will contribute significantly to the situation and election-related plans, covering a variety of political and regional challenges.

The upcoming panchayat and municipal elections, which are set to take place between October and December, have divided the BJP. While some propose conducting these elections before the Lok Sabha elections, others support delaying them in order to give priority to parliamentary elections. The final decision would be made by the Jammu and Kashmir administration after consulting with the Union Home Ministry and taking into account the security situation.

The leaders of the BJP will talk about their electoral preparations for a variety of elections, including those for the Assembly and Parliament as well as urban and rural local bodies.
