November 2, Srinagar: On Thursday, Shakil Ahmad Ganie, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Income Tax (IT) Srinagar, said that in order to remove the socio-economic evil of black money from society, taxpayers and the tax administration must work together.

Speaking at an awareness programme organised by the IT Department in partnership with the Kulgam district administration in Kulgam, Ganie emphasised the significance of the tax administration and the taxpayers in eliminating the socio-economic evil of black money from the nation, according to an official spokesman in a statement released here.
He engaged with the audience throughout the outreach session and stressed the value of income tax as a tool for raising money for the country’s socioeconomic development.
Ganie expressed gratitude to DC Kulgam’s Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, the event’s principal guest, for leading the outreach initiative.
The audience was also educated about the punitive provisions of the IT Act in this respect, as well as the responsibilities of DDOs in ensuring that workers do not claim incorrect reimbursements.
In order to avoid penalties, the taxpayers were urged to file their ITRs carefully and meticulously.
The audience was also informed about the availability of submitting Updated Returns (ITR-U), which may be done to rectify errors and prevent further legal ramifications.
