The department of General and Minimal Invasive Surgery at SKIMS hosted an international conference and workshop on the Laparoscopic Management of Hernia and Morbid Obesity on September 12 in Srinagar. The event was organised under the auspices of the ENDOSCOPIC AND LAPAROSCOPIC SURGEONS OF ASIA (ELSA).
In addition to members of the UT’s surgical fraternity, the delegates included renowned members of the surgical community from throughout the world and in their own country. The conference was organised and run with the assistance of senior faculty members of the Department, including Professor Fazl Q Parray, Professor Rouf Wani, Professor Mubashir Shah, Professor Munir Wani, Dr. Natasha Thakur, Dr. Gowher Aziz, and Dr. Bilal Ahmad. It was led by Professor Ajaz Ahmad Malik, Head of the Department of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery, who also served as the conference’s head organiser.
Reputable subject matter experts from Germany, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore had in-depth conversations on a variety of topics with local surgeons, subject matter experts, and students.
The Head of the Department of General Surgery, Professor Ajaz Ahmad Malik, shared information that this conference was the first of its type to be held at the UT. As part of the conference, a workshop that included hands-on training was held in the skills development Lab in order to improve the abilities of aspiring surgeons. He expressed his gratitude to both the government and the head of the institution, Professor Pervez Koul, for their unwavering support in facilitating the activities in question. He went on to say that the conference will make a significant contribution to the overall improvement of medical treatment provided to patients of this kind in our area.
