Chennai, Oct. 7: For the last several days, the Wallajah Road, one of the city’s important connection roads, has been bustling with activity. Traffic grew as a result of cars travelling to Marina Beach and other places, and the tension within MA Chidambaram Stadium is also increasing in anticipation of India’s 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup opener against Australia on Sunday.

Due to the committed and careful work of the artists, the stadium’s interior and exterior walls have come to life during the city’s chilly nights, in contrast to its often hot and muggy climate. While frantic activity in and around the arena took centre stage to accomplish every task before the blockbuster match between Australia and India starts on Sunday afternoon, they were being given the final touches by the artists.

The 1987 World Cup match between Australia and India, which Australia won by one run, and the 1986 Test match, which ended in a draw, were two historic matches between the two sides that took place in Chennai. The classic cricket site is prepared to write a new chapter on India-Australia meetings on Sunday.

India has won the World Cup twice, in 1983 and 2011. They took home the title both times. The match on Sunday will mark the restart of their effort to break their ten-year trophy drought internationally. The World Cup has been won by Australia five times: in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015. They have the talent to perform at their peak during major games and are the only team to win three straight ODI World Cup championships.

The current form is also to India’s advantage, in addition to the pattern of host countries winning the World Cup in the past three iterations. After winning the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and then defeating Australia 2-1 at home last month, Rohit Sharma and company enter the tournament as the top-ranked ODI squad and are confident that they can emulate the success of the MS Dhoni-led team’s 2011 World Cup winning run.
