Nov. 21, Jammu: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Tuesday that it has taken into custody one more suspect in the Pakistan-sponsored terrorism case concerning the drone delivery of weapons to militants operating in Kashmir.

A 22-year-old man named Zakir Hussain of the Kathua, J&K, area was apprehended on Monday by a team from the NIA Jammu Branch, according to a release to the agency. In the case (RC-06/2022/NIA/JMU), which was filed on July 30, 2022, after the NIA took over from Kathua Police, he is the eighth accused to be taken into custody. While in judicial custody, one of the seven suspects who had been captured earlier passed away from a cardiac collapse, while two terror operators with a base in Pakistan are still at large.

The statement claims that on January 12, 2023, the NIA charged the seven accused people who were arrested and the two absconders under sections 16, 17, 18, 18B, 20, 23, 38, 39, and 40 of the UA (P) Act, 1967, sections 25(1)(a) and 25(1AA) of the Arms Act, sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, and sections 120B, 121A, and 122 of the IPC.

Investigations by the NIA revealed that the accused were carrying out the instructions of their Pakistani handler, Sajjad Gul. The accused had responsibility for gathering, receiving, and delivering the weaponry dropped by drones to terrorists operating in the Kashmir valley. In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the weapons were used to carry out terrorist acts.

He claimed that when a drone (a helicopter) was intercepted and many rounds of UBGL/magnetic bombs were found close to the Dhalli region of PS Rajbagh in District Kathua, the local police had first filed a complaint.

The statement said that the NIA is carrying out its investigations into the case in an effort to expose a larger plot by terrorist organizations supported by Pakistan to commit acts of terror and bloodshed in the Kashmir Valley and across India. GNSS
