October 31 (ANI): New Delhi (India): Flowers were left at the monument of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Patel Chowk here on the occasion of his 148th birthday on Tuesday by President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Union Minister Meenakashi Lekhi and Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena both spoke highly of the late Deputy Prime Minister.

This event also saw Home Minister Shah give the Unity oath and start off the “Run for Unity” from Major Dhyan Chand Stadium.


National Unity Day is celebrated annually on October 31.

From 1947 until 1950, India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, held the positions.

He was a prominent Congress figure who helped bring together India’s more than five hundred and fifty independent princely kingdoms. He spoke passionately about the need to empower women. (ANI)
