Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily halted till the weather conditions improve, as a result of the torrential rain that fell over Kashmir on Friday along both of the routes leading to Amarnath.

The movement of Yatris towards the cave shrine has been delayed for the time being for the sake of the pilgrims’ safety owing to the heavy rain that has been falling along the Pahalgam route in south Kashmir and the Baltal route in north Kashmir, according to the officials.

“The base camp at Baltal has 4,000 pilgrims, while Pahalgam has 3,200 people stationed there.

“The Yatra will pick up where it left off as the weather becomes better.

“Over 84,000 pilgrims have performed the Yatra during the last six days since it began on July 1,” authorities stated. “The event officially began on July 1.
