Biden says $325 million in military assistance will be sent to Ukraine amid a budget impasse in Congress

The Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, praised India’s chairmanship of the Group of Twenty (G20) on Friday in New Delhi.

He and Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a joint statement reiterating their support for the Group of Twenty and expressing optimism that the outcomes of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi will help achieve the goals of the group, which include hastening sustainable development, strengthening multilateral cooperation, and building global consensus around inclusive economic policies to address their greatest common challenges.

The Vice President, who, together with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, arrived in India on Friday evening for the next G20 meeting on September 9 and 10, reiterated the significance of the Quad in promoting a free, open, inclusive, and resilient Indo-Pacific.

According to the statement, India will host the next Quad Leaders’ Summit in 2024, and Modi is looking forward to receiving Biden.

When the United States decided to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative in June 2023, India was pleased by the news that it will be working with the United States to co-lead the initiative’s Pillar on Trade Connectivity and Maritime Transport.

Reiterating his belief that the United Nations Security Council should be changed to include India as a permanent member, Vice President Biden once again welcomed India’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UNSC in 2028-29.

The leaders reaffirmed their support for a comprehensive UN reform agenda, including the addition of new members to the UN Security Council in both the permanent and non-permanent categories, and they stressed the importance of strengthening and reforming the multilateral system so that it more accurately reflects modern realities.
